Stake Mines: 99% RTP on paper, closed to Australia

Here is Stake's in-house Mines: how it differs from Spribe's game, what its 99% RTP means in multipliers, how its fairness method works, and what Stake's own terms say about Australian players.

What Stake Mines is

Stake Mines is one of Stake's in-house "Originals". Its page describes a 5 × 5 grid where "you choose your stake and decide how many mines (1 to 24) will be hidden across the 25 tiles", and says that "every round of this Only on Stake game" runs "with a 99% RTP and 1% house edge". Safe tiles show gems; a mine ends the round and the wager is lost. There's a manual mode and an Autobet mode.

The operator named in Stake's terms is Medium Rare N.V., licensed by the Curaçao Gaming Authority under licence OGL/2024/1451/0918.

The Australian problem

Stake's Terms of Service are direct:

"14.3 Persons located in or reside in Afghanistan, Argentina, Austria, Australia, … (the "Prohibited Jurisdictions") are not permitted make use of the Service."

The next clause closes the workaround: using a VPN, proxy or false details "with the intent to circumvent geo-blocking or jurisdiction restrictions, constitutes a breach of Clause 5 of this Terms of Service." For an Australian, that makes Stake Mines a game you can read about, not one to open, and it's why no Stake link appears on this site.

What 99% would pay

Stake doesn't publish a multiplier table, so these are calculated with the same formula at 99% and rounded to the cent:

Mines1 gem3 gems5 gems
31.13×1.48×2.00×
51.24×2.00×3.39×
2424.75×——

Compared with Spribe's 97%, each multiplier is about 2% higher. You can switch between 99%, 97% and 95% in the odds calculator.

How Stake lays out the mines

Stake publishes the method, which Spribe doesn't: "A mine game is generated with 24 separate game events", each random number is scaled to the tiles still free, positions run "left to right, top to bottom", and "the fisher-yates shuffle implementation is utilised to prevent duplicate possible hits". Before a round, Stake "commits to the server seed and publishes its encrypted hash", which its page sums up as: "Stake cannot alter a board after the round begins."

Stake's popularity figures

Stake's page claims Mines draws "an average of 830,000 players every month across more than 354 million monthly wagers". That's Stake's own statement, not a figure anyone outside can check.

Pros

  • The highest RTP of the three versions on this site
  • Stake publishes how each board is laid out from the seeds
  • Up to 24 mines

Cons

  • Stake's terms list Australia among its prohibited jurisdictions
  • Using a VPN to get around that breaches the same terms, which puts any winnings at risk
  • No demo; every round is a real-money round
  • No published multiplier table; the 99% figures here are calculated

My verdict

On paper Stake Mines is the best-paying version, at 99%. For Australians it's a closed door: Stake's own terms prohibit Australia and treat a VPN as a breach. The version you can actually open and check is Spribe's, and the maths is on this site's free grid.

Questions people ask

Can I play Stake Mines in Australia?
Stake's Terms of Service, clause 14.3, list Australia among the "Prohibited Jurisdictions", and clause 14.4 says that manipulating your location with a VPN or proxy to get around that is a breach of the terms.
What is the RTP of Stake Mines?
Stake lists 99% with a 1% house edge for every round, whatever the mine count.
Is there a Stake Mines demo?
No. Stake's page says a demo version is not currently available and every round is played with real wagers.
What is a "fake Stake Mines" game?
Usually a site or app that copies Stake's look to take deposits or casino logins. Since Stake doesn't run a demo, any "free Stake Mines" with a download link isn't Stake's.
